An approach to listening that supports us to attend to our own nervous system feedback as well as those that we are listening to. This helps us to build our capacity to stay regulated in the face of challenging content and / or people that are overwhelmed. Deep Listening equips us to offer a relationally safe space to those we support without losing ourselves to stress or burnout, making our listening more sustainable for the long haul. In this course we will be: ~Learning to track our own nervous system responses in order to build our capacity to stay regulated as a listener. ~Identifying and practicing core skills that demonstrate active listening. ~Cultivating the core qualities that create relational safety and trust. ~Considering what a trauma informed approach to listening looks like. ~Exploring the pitfalls of listening eg: empathic distress; unclear boundaries, power dynamics. ~Building a tool kit of personal practices to take forward beyond the training. This will be a small experiential training group with enough time to reflect on individual listening scenarios. All sessions will be backed up with handouts and notes, and the course includes a 1-1 session with myself to explore in more depth any particular aspects of listening that you are interested in. What is the structure of the course? The course is online via zoom and will run for 6 consecutive Wednesday mornings at 10.15am - 12.15pm ~ a total of 12 teaching hours. I will record the teaching content elements of the course, however live attendance is very strongly advised because of the opportunity to practice the skills and applications. How much does it cost? There are three tiers to choose from. My Deep Listening approach is informed by my trainings in neuroscience, mindfulness, Hakomi and humanistic counselling. My professional experience has come through my roles of training and supervisiong large teams on crisis services and facilitating countless other professionals in many varied roles to listen to themselves. And most of all from having listened deeply to myself in my work as a mental health practitioner, a facilitator and a therapist.
